EXPERIENCE OJODU GRASSROOTS ALTERNATIVES FOUNDATIONS

Our Mission

Our Mission - Social Developments

We are facilitating a space in which Stichting Ojodu Grassroots Alternatives Foundation worldwide can make their own informed decisions concerning their environment and social development.

Our Vision

To protect and improve the environment worldwide from the grassroots as a valuable asset for the people.

To protect our people and the environment from harmful effects of pollution and strive for fossil free urban life and renewable energy for Ojodu grassroot communities.

Our special focus is to the food-energy nexus, as an inter linkages between energy access and other Sustainable Development Goals, and the latest trends and developments in bio energy.

To focus on strategic and programmatic direction to help Ojodu grassroot community accelerate deployment of renewable energy, water and sanitation and in doing so, meet climate goals, boost the local economy, and increase energy access and social security.

To strengthen economic planning and SDG's implementations and steer grassroot communities across the globe towards sustainable development path.

To run programmes in support of grassroot resident co-ordination.

To connect grassroot communities in the European Union with global movement to solve the root causes of poverty, marginalisation, problematic issues of refugee influx and environmental pollution.

To highlight resources rights in food sovereignty, sustainable livelihood and economic justice.

To bring awareness to popular communication trainees, political education and global solidarity on environmental and climate change awareness.

To create the GREAT (Grassroots Renewable Energy Advocate Team) Global community.

Our Value

To tackle the gap of social cohesion and the challenges of the alternative fossil free future.

We are the agent of change in our society.

Our Aim

To make a difference is also to break the cycle of the prevalent self serving politics that are perpetuating the cycle of social exclusion under the guise of making a difference that is typical in Africa and other developing societies.

The better the poor are able to manage, the safer the wealthy are. To tend to the common good is a civic virtue because it protects the entire social structure. When this goes ignored too long, bad things happen as evidenced in the world today.

Our Virtue

To contribute our quota to amend ‘our fractured world’, and access sustainable development goals, through sustainable sanitation alliance. By using public private partnership models for Interventions.

OUR STORY

Meaning of Ojodu

“Ojo” in Yoruba is “Rain” and rain connotes nature and her recycling, purifying and versatile harmonious properties. In Yoruba culture, “Du” is “Duu” which means to defend and “Du” is defence.

Living up to the name, the indigenous (and the grassroots) of this small part of Lagos, Nigeria have always wanted to thrive in their natural environment. The grassroot dread pollution like the plague.

We at grassroots strive for clean and evergreen Ojodu to be a shining example and act as a template for other grassroots of the world to follow, especially Africa and other developing parts of the world.

Ojodu is a small part of Ikeja, a highly developed area of Lagos. They share border with Ogun State and there is a discharge canal (carrying plastic and all sorts of waste) that links Ojodu to the Alagbole area of Ojodu axis where this waste is deposited. Frequent cleaning is required to avoid spillover. However, this region attracts mosquitos making its residents, including children, highly susceptible to various kinds of diseases such as malaria, typhoid, cholera, etc.

Research shows that children born in Ojodu have higher percentage of sickle cell diseases compared to people of other West-African descent.
